Environmental Responsibility and Business Success

The IT industry manages the temperature on the world’s thermometer. 🌡 By 2025, with over 5.3 billion internet users and 1.8 billion websites (250,000 new ones daily), it will use 20% of the world’s electricity and emit 5.5% of CO₂. To demonstrate: that’s double of the global aviation industry, and equal to the annual emissions of Africa and Australia combined! Due to a new EU directive and user demands, major companies are actively seeking green infrastructure and increased energy efficiency for digital products. Research shows most websites of leading Croatian companies are energy inefficient. Are we now more aware of our role in creating sustainable software, and how can we design and develop more efficient solutions in Croatia?

We will try to provide answers during the presentation on digital sustainability at The Geek Gathering conference in Osijek, Croatia.
